Growing up, I shared a bedroom with my older brother. His sleeping presence didn't help me with my night scares though. I was probably ten years old when these fellows emerged through the wall, marched across the room in line, and disappeared.
Aw, your little 10-year-old self looks so freaked out in this drawing! I love that the ghostly figures look creepy but not dangerous.
ReplyDeleteHi Laurie--Yes, I remember them as spooky but not threatening. Still, they scared the PJs off me =]
DeleteDid you draw them then or do you just have a vivid memory? Scary!
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth--No I didn't draw them at the time. These are a bit...enhanced...by my adult-artist self. The ones I (thought I) saw were not as detailed--much more gauzy than this illustration shows.
DeleteOh man, I had remarkably similar visions -- right out of the headboard wall -- when I was a little kid in Pennsylvania; perhaps 3-5 years old. Also ghosts and witches. What would Blake say?
ReplyDeleteBlake would have probably said "Quit reading those Dell Ghost Stories comic books", lol. My parents said it, but to no avail. Were those your comics of choice too, Erik?
DeleteI had night visions of dark arms hanging over my face while I lay in bed. They seemed to be coming out of the headboard. I wish I could say I was just a kid when I saw that! Your ghostly guests look as if they were priests of Old Testament times....
ReplyDeleteThe origins of these things are a mystery, Miss Gladys. We creative types get the scares along with the good visions. It comes with the territory I guess
DeleteI remember only the golden angel who's visited my bedroom when I was about 5 year old.... but I still remember it ....
ReplyDeleteThat sounds very wonderful, LT!
